Mini Rescue Mission and the Workouts Today

The evening workout got postponed when we had to do a mini rescue of one of our co-workers this evening. She went on a planned 22 mile run that should have ended at at around 4:30pm. She called after taking a bit of wrong turn and ran 30 miles and was hoping to get a ride home. We hopped in a truck and drove 45 minutes one way up Reddington Pass. Fortunately, we found her just after dark and rolled back to do a quick workout.

Morning Circuit: Perform each exercise for one minute each. 5 sets total. No rest between sets.
Hand Release Push-Up
Sandbag Ground to Overhead
Bicycle SIt-Up
Sumo Deadlift to High Pull

Evening Weight Training Superset: Perform each exercise in order to complete a set. Three sets total.
Bench Press, 10 repetitions
Dumbbell Hammer Curl, 10 repetitions
Wrist Rollup, 4 repetitions

The Passing of Robin Williams and Lifting for the Shoulders and Triceps

I have found myself pretty bummed with the death of Robin Williams. I grew up right along with Williams' television career, watching him on the show "Happy Days" and then spinning off to its own show "Mork and Mindy". The thing that is so amazing to me, is that Williams was by far one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen, making everyone around him laugh hysterically. Yet, deep inside of himself he was suffering from mental illness.

I was very angry when I heard that Fox News' Shepard Smith commented that Williams was "such a coward" for committing suicide. What an ignorant asshole. I hope that no one that Shepard Smith knows and loves suffers from depression. I know that I will miss Robin Williams and that my life is better having witnessed his genius. Rest in Peace.

Today's quote is from Robin Williams after being asked by "Inside The Actors' Studio" host James Lipton the following question: "If heaven exists, what would you like God to say when you arrive at the pearly gates?"

"There is seating near the front. The concert begins at five, it'll be Mozart, Elvis and one of your choosing."

Weight Training: Shoulders and Triceps. Three sets of 6-8 repetitions unless otherwise stated.
Seated Dumbbell Overhead Press
Dumbbell Side Raises
Alternating Front Dumbbell Raises
Captains of Crush Grip Trainers
Dumbbell Triceps Kickbacks
Overhead Dumbbell Triceps Extensions

Circuit Training: Perform each exercise in order to complete one set. Three sets total. No rest between sets.
Sandbag Overhead Press, 10 repetitions
Weighted Wrist Roll-Ups, 5 repetitions
Diamond Triceps Push-Ups, 20 repetitions

Barbell Push Press, 3 sets of 8, 5 and 4 repetitions
Barbell Skull Crushers

The Tears of Blood, Chalk, Sweat and Tears

I often times laugh when asked what is up with the "Tears" portion of the title of this blog. I tell folks that it isn't "tears" like it would rhyme with "peers"... it is "tears" like it rhymes with "pears"... as in "I have a partial tear in my ACL!"

The reality is that it is "tears" that one will cry when injured, sad or just emotionally overwhelmed. Being an American of Irish and Scottish descent I know a thing or two about being emotional. Give us a few beers or whiskey and we Murphys cry at the drop of a hat. Happy, sad or angry.

I was impressed the other day when Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award for the National Basketball Association. In an era of big egos and overinflated monetary contracts for athletes, Kevin Durant gave one of the most heartfelt acceptance speeches I have ever heard. You cannot watch it without getting at least a little weepy. If you can't watch the entire speech, at least catch the last 5 minutes, especially when he thanks his mom!

Today's quote is from Edgar Allen Poe:

"Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears."

Morning Lifting Routine: Shoulders and Triceps
Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Lateral Dumbbell Raise
Alternating Front Dumbbell Raise
Captains of Crush Grip Trainers
Dumbbell Triceps Kickbacks
Diamond Triceps Push-Ups
Overhead Dumbbell Triceps Extensions

Evening Workout:
Sandbag Shoulder to Overhead Press
Heavy Barbell Shoulder Shrugs
Heavy Barbell Push Press (New personal best tonight!)

Have a Great Day!
